If you’re starting to plan that first summer hiking or fishing trip, or you’d just like to get out of town for a weekend, mark the follow days on your calendar—they’re free!

Yes, on select days throughout the 2014 spring and summer season, the Washington State Park and Recreation Commission is celebrating its 101st birthday with some free admission days to its over 100 parks, trails, and recreational sites across the state.

May 11 – A spring Sunday “free day

June 7-8 – National Trails Day and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Free Fishing Weekend

June 14 – National Get Outdoors Day

August 25 – National Park Service birthday

September 27 – National Public Lands Day

November 11 – Veterans Day

Here’s some more information on free days, courtesy of the Renton Reporter:

Free days are in keeping with legislation that created the Discover Pass, a $30 annual or $10 one-day permit required on recreation lands managed by Washington State Parks, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The Discover Pass legislation provided that State Parks could designate up to 12 “free days” each year when the pass would not be required to visit state parks. Discover Pass is required to access DFW and DNR Lands on State Parks free days.
